The Self-Adhesive Position Guide

This item was created in response to our extensive research which involved thousands of digital handwriting samples. Along with pressure and movement measures, the digitizer recorded altitude and azimuth pen angles which relate to arm or wrist and finger movement. The measures revealed one ergonomic relationship that is critical for fluent application of handwritng movements.

The relationship between the position of the paper and the writing hand is potent. The pupil who does not learn to use good paper positioning, is constantly fighting to accomplish left-to-right movement. The writing hand position, relative to the paper, blocks or retards movement in the proper direction. The position guide provides constant help for correct paper placement.

The guide also improves on the popular "alphabet desk strip" concept. It provides letter models on the desk but it presents those letters in writing position. Learning to read the letters while they are in writing position is an important part of learning to use good paper position. The guide also provides the teacher with powerful information. It is easy to spot the position skills being applied during any writing activity. Learning to use good writing position is critical when fluent left-to-right movement is the long-term goal.
